Who took
the picture

The archive does not commission photography yet, so every hero-car plate is a photograph somebody else made and chose to license openly. They are named here, on the issue they appear in, and nowhere less prominent than the image itself.

The rule
AcceptedCC0, public domain, CC BY
RefusedCC BY-SA, non-commercial, no-derivatives, all rights reserved
WhyA duotone is a derivative work. A share-alike licence would pull the treatment, and arguably the page around it, under share-alike terms.
ApparelNone of these photographs is printed on anything. They are editorial only.
SeparateManufacturer press photography is not open-licensed and is not filed as though it were. It sits under press terms, below, on its own conditions.

Press photography

A different basis entirely

The plates above are openly licensed and treated accordingly: cropped, desaturated and split-toned into the house duotone, because an open licence permits derivative works. The colour photographs in Issue 01 are not openly licensed and are not handled the same way.

They are BMW Group press material, obtained from BMW Group PressClub and reproduced here for editorial press use. BMW's terms make that use conditional, and the two conditions that matter are that the material is used as supplied and that it is sourced. So these images are reproduced unaltered — proportionally resized for delivery and nothing else, with no crop, no toning, no filter and no overlay — and every one carries its photo ID, its rights holder and a link back to the source beneath the image itself.

Four further frames were downloaded in the same session and are deliberately not published. Their embedded metadata named third-party photographers rather than BMW, and a press licence from BMW cannot convey rights BMW does not hold.

None of this material is printed on any product, and none of it is used to imply that BMW endorses, sponsors or is associated with Trackday Brand. BMW, M, the BMW roundel and the model designations referenced across this archive are trademarks of BMW AG.

The short version

Openly licensed photograph → may be toned into the house duotone.

Press photograph → reproduced exactly as supplied, resized only, credited at the point of use.

Photograph whose rights sit with a third party → not published at all.

If BMW Group would prefer any frame on this site removed, it comes down on request, the same week, without argument.

Corrections

If a credit is wrong

Attribution is only worth anything if it is accurate. If you are the photographer of any frame here and the credit is wrong, the licence is misread, or you would rather the image came down, say so and it is fixed or removed the same week — no argument, no negotiation.
