Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II
The Evolution II exists for one reason: to make a rear wing legal. Mercedes built exactly 502 road cars between May and July 1990, all left-hand drive and all in blue-black metallic, to homologate the bodywork and aerodynamics that AMG needed for the DTM.
The road car's M102 2.5-litre 16-valve made 235 PS at 7,200 rpm with a 7,700 rpm limit and a dogleg Getrag five-speed. The DTM version made 373 PS at 9,500 rpm and weighed around 980 kilograms. In 1992 it delivered the championship to Klaus Ludwig and the constructors' title to AMG-Mercedes.

Colour studies
190E Evo II — the Stuttgart diagonals
Silver, then three diagonals in descending width — blue, red, blue. The most formally composed scheme in the archive.
190E Evo II — the three-day yellow
A works Mercedes that was not silver, for exactly one race. Almost the entire plate is a single colour, and that is the point.
